About John
John Kovac has proudly represented Ward 4 on Mississauga City Council since first being elected in a 2015 by-election. He was re-elected in 2018 and 2022 and currently serves as Deputy Mayor of Mississauga and Vice-Chair of General Committee.
John serves on several City committees and boards, including Planning and Development, Budget, Audit, Transit Advisory, Road Safety, and the Mississauga Library Board. Throughout his time on Council, he has focused on building stronger neighbourhoods, improving road and pedestrian safety, investing in parks and recreation, strengthening community infrastructure and helping shape the future of Mississauga’s downtown.
Born and raised in Mississauga, John grew up in the Rathwood neighbourhood and continues to live in Ward 4. He is proud to represent the community he calls home and to bring residents’ priorities to City Hall.
John holds an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in History and English Literature from the University of Toronto, St. Michael’s College. Before entering municipal politics, he worked in government relations for a trade union and previously served in the offices of a Member of Parliament and a Member of Provincial Parliament who also served as Ontario’s Minister of Labour.
With more than a decade of public service, John remains focused on building on Ward 4’s progress, delivering for residents and looking ahead to the community’s future.

John Kovac was honoured in June of 2026 by the Mississauga Central Lions Club with the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship— one of the highest recognitions awarded through Lions Clubs International. Named after Lions Clubs founder Melvin Jones, the Fellowship recognizes individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to humanitarian service and making a positive difference in their community.
John was deeply honoured to receive this recognition from the Mississauga Central Lions Club and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside an organization so dedicated to helping others. For John, this honour represents the importance of community, service and giving back — values that continue to guide his work serving the residents of Ward 4 and Mississauga.
Mississauga Central Lions Club
For more than 50 years, the Mississauga Central Lions Club has been serving our community and making a difference in the lives of others. Since 1974, the Club has raised and distributed more than $6 million in support of local and global causes, helping organizations and initiatives focused on vision care, hunger, children’s health, the environment and humanitarian service.
